Archie Rumsam
Archie Rumsam is a Melbourne-based baritone originating from Cambridgeshire, England.
Beginning his musical life as a classical guitarist, Archie began appearing in musicals from How To Succeed to Urinetown. This led into Operetta, where he sang the roles of Dick Deadeye and Raoul St. Brioche. Appearing in the chorus of BK's Production of Pirates of Penzance led to his first opera with BK, appearing in their production of Mozart's Abduction.
Archie began as a tenor at 17 years old, and has sung the role of Guido in Offenbach's La Chatte Métamorphosée en Femme, and Pylade in Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride. He began life as a baritone in the roles of Blazes and Second Officer in Peter Maxwell-Davies' The Lighthouse, and more recently premiered the new opera The Sea with Forest Collective and BK.
Archie is trained in acting and theatrical craft at Deakin University, where he developed in outside-in styles of acting, choosing to avoid internal “Method” styles where at all possible. Archie's non-musical roles both characters in Genet’s The Maids, Oberon in Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Duke Pelmet in Stephen Briggs’ adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters.
Archie is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, specialising in classical voice.
